Columbiana punches district ticket

COLUMBIANA–Columbiana rolled over Wellsville 13-0 in five innings to open up Div. IV tournament play on Wednesday at Firestone Park.

Columbiana (16-6) advances to the district semifinals to face Canton Central Catholic at Western Reserve High School on Tuesday.

Marissa Makosky led the Clippers offensively with a double and a single. Maci Lindhart, Marisa McDonough, Morgan Highley and Amanda Mellott each had two singles.

McDonough had 11 strikeouts on the mound for Columbiana.

For Wellsville, Emily Russell and Aryn Ice each had singles.

Columbiana will travel to Leetonia for a regular season contest today.

EAST CANTON — Top-seeded East Canton eliminated Lisbon with a 14-4 win in six innings in a Div. IV sectional final on Wednesday.

Autumn Oehlstrom had three hits including a double for the Devils, 8-9. Hannah Deland had two hits and two RBIs. Sam Tinsley had two hits.

East Canton will meet Western Reserve in district semifinal at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Western Reserve High School.

BERLIN CENTER — Alyssa Serensky had a double, single and RBI, while Layla Woolf had a three-run homer as Western Reserve beat Lowellville 6-2 on Wednesday in a Div. IV sectional final.

Arianna Gregorino added two singles, a double and an RBI.

Western Reserve (10-10) will host East Canton at 4 p.m. on Tuesday in a Div. IV district semifinal.

CANTON–Southern was eliminated from tournament play with a 16-6 loss to Canton Central Catholic in Div. III sectional action on Wednesday.

Kennedy Pisarky had a single and a run for the Indians. Madison Berta had two singles and two RBIs.

Canton Central Catholic will now face Columbiana in the district semifinals at Western Reserve on Tuesday.

MINERVA — West Branch’s softball team captured its 20th win of the season by downing Minerva 7-3 on Wednesday.

West Branch is 20-1 overall and 12-1 in the Northeastern Buckeye Conference.

Grace Heath paced the Warriors with a single and triple. Peyton Alazaus had a triple. Delaney Rito had two RBIs.

Elyssa Imler had two triples for Minerva, 10-6, 5-6.

West Branch hosts the winner of Howland and Struthers on Friday in a Div. II sectional final.

SALEM — Carrollton’s softball team dumped Salem 13-0 in five innings on Wednesday.

Elly Exline had a lead-off single for the Quakers only hit. She is batting .437 this season and leads the team in batting.

Salem is at Poland on Friday in a Div. II sectional final.

South Range 18, Akron St. Vincent St. Mary 6

GREENFORD–South Range dominated Akron St. V’s in an 18-6 win in five innings on Wednesday.

Madison Weaver led the Raiders offensively with a home run, single and four RBIs. Hope Thomas blasted a home run and had three RBIs.

South Range is now 17-6 and will host Aurora in regular season action on Friday before it’s Div. III district semifinal against Waterloo on Monday.
