Trax race celebrates 25th year

SALEM — Andy Morgan of Cortland keeps adding to his impressive running resume.

Morgan, who was the state runner-up in leading the Maplewood boys to the 2005 Division III state cross country title, won the 25th annual Star trax 5K Night Run on Saturday.

He covered the 3.1-mile course that started and ended at Reilly Stadium in 15 minutes, 32.9 seconds.

Emma Lunne, 23, of Canfield was the women’s winner in 18:40.3.

Lunne won the 2012 Suburban League Championship while running for Canfield High School and also competed in the 2016 Boston Marathon.

A pair of current Salem High School standouts took second places — Hunter Christopher and Haley Rozeski.

Christopher, the 2017 Columbiana County cross country champion, and Rozeski, the girls county runner-up, both led their respective Quaker 3200-meter relay teams to seventh-place finishes at the Division II state track meet in June.

There were 343 runners who finished Saturday’s race.

The Star Trax 5K Night Run is the only fundraiser for he Salem X-Tra Mile Club. Proceeds support the Salem boys and girls track and cross country teams.
