Heartland foils East Canton

COLUMBIANA — Sixth-seeded Heartland Christian had no problems with 11th-seeded East Canton, winning 25-20, 25-22, 14-25, 25-20 in a Division IV sectional opener at Columbiana High School.

Topping Heartland were Dara Arthurs with 13 kills, seven digs and four blocks; Makayla Osborn 11 kills, four points, seven digs and two blocks; Charis Direnzo seven kills, 15 points, six aces, four digs and two blockcs; Lydia Wilson 39 assists, 11 points, four aces and four blocks; Hannah Brandenstein five kills, 12 points, four aces and 12 digs; and Jeanna Morgan had 16 digs.

For East Canton, Molly Peterson had 10 kills and nine aces and Brooklyn Donaldson 17 digs.

Heartland will play third-seeded Western Reserve at noon Saturday.

Jackson-Milton 3,

Sebring 0

COLUMBIANA — Julia Bogden totaled 27 points and 20 digs in leading seventh-seeded Jackson-Milton past 10th-seeded Sebring, 25-16, 25-9, 25-14, in a Columbiana Division IV sectional opener Wednesday.

Jackson-Milton (9-13) will play second-seeded Southern Local at 1:15 p.m. Saturday.

Sebring (4-18) got eight points rom Delaney Reggi, five points from Olivia Hawk, 24 digs from Kendra Shields and 11 digs from Emma Whaley.

Crestview 3,

Edgewood 0

COLUMBIANA — Crestview bested Ashtabula Edgewood 25-15, 25-15, 25-12 on Wednesday in a regular season match.

Amelia Montgomery had six aces to set the school record for aces in the season with 70. She also had 10 digs and 15 points.

Emily Emch had 13 kills, three blocks, six aces, two digs and nine points. She set the school aces record for a career with 139.

Brenna Auer had six kills, six digs and seven points, while Tess Neville had nine kills.

Crestview is 20-2.

The Rebels won the jayvee match 25-19, 29-27. Allyria Flowers had seven kills and two blocks.

Southeast 3, United 2

SALEM — Tenth-seeded Ravenna Southeast held off seventh-seeded United fora 26-24, 24-26, 25-16, 12-25, 15-13 win in a Salem Division III sectional opener Wednesday.

Southeast advances to play second-seeded Crestview at noon Saturday.

Leaders for United were Rachel Bown with 15 kills, five blocks, 11 points, four aces and eight digs; Savannah Burton 15 points, five aces, eight kills and five digs; and Haley Dees 23 assists, eight points and four digs.

United finishes the season with an 11-12 records.

In Wednesday’s nightcap, 11th-seeded Rootstown beat sixth-seeded Liberton, 25-20, 25-22, 25-23.

The Rovers will play third-seeded Springfield at 1:15 p.m. Saturday.

West Branch

BELOIT — Sixth-seeded Youngstown Ursuline and seventh-seeded Canton South won Division II sectional openers Wednesday at West Branch High School.

Ursuline topped 11th-seeded Struthers, 25-10, 25-18, 25-19, while Canton South topped 10th-seeded Youngstown East, 25-11, 25-6, 25-11.

Both teams play Saturday as Canton South takes on second-seeded Marlington at noon and Ursuline plays third-seeded West Branch at 1:15 p.m.
