Quakers win EBC opener

CANTON–The Salem girls basketball team kicked-off Eastern Buckeye Conference play with a 43-36 victory at Canton South Saturday.

The Quakers improve to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference.

Kyle Jamison led the Salem effort with 15 points and seven rebounds. Jaden Hamilton added eight points and four rebounds. Hamilton’s scoring helped propel the Qaukers through a crucial stretch of the game.

Echo Mayer Kutz rounded things out with seven points and eight rebounds. She helped close out the game by going 5-for-5 from the free throw line. The Quakers finished the day 75 percent from the line.

Salem won the jv game 28-27. Rylie Troy had nine points, four rebounds, four steals and two assists for the Quakers.

Salem is at Struthers Monday.

West Branch 48, Marlington 20

BELOIT — West Branch got 10 points from Grace Heath and a balanced attack all around as it defeated Marlington 48-20 on Saturday.

West Branch moved to 2-1, 1-0, while Marlington is 0-2, 0-1.

Carly Scarpitti backed up the winning effort with seven points and 10 rebounds.

West Branch won the jayvee game, 33-24.

ALLIANCE — Minerva’s girls basketball team moved to 2-0 on the season with a 48-18 win over Alliance on Saturday afternoon in Eastern Buckeye Conference play.

Alliance fell to 0-3.

Nelle Yankovich led the Lions with 11 points.

Lordstown 36

SEBRING–The Sebring boys basketball team defeated Lordstown 72-36 Saturday.

Joey Clark was on target from long distance for the Trojans, as he nailed six three pointers to finish with a game-high 28 points.

Jake Hunter added 19 points for Sebring. Gabe Lanzer and Matt Byrd each grabbed six rebounds.

Lordstown won the jv game 56-14.

Sebring is now 2-0 and is at Struthers Tuesday.

LISBON — Valley Christian was outscored by five in the opening quarter but made up for it with a 23-point advantage in the second quarter as the Eagles knocked off Lisbon 68-38 on Saturday in the championship game of the Lisbon Tip-Off Tournament.

Lisbon was led by Ryan McCullough’s 13 points. Brice Blackburn had seven boards, while Logan Bell had five rebounds. Joey Fisher had four assists.

Lisbon hosts United on Tuesday.

In the consolation game, East Canton beat Crestview 55-39.
