Raiders gang up on Ursuline

GREENFORD — South Range made a thrilling fourth-quarter comeback to rally past Youngstown Ursuline, 58-54, Tuesday.

The Raiders trailed 43-36 after three quarters before Chris Brooks scored 11 points to highlight a 22-11 fourth-quarter run that gave the Raiders the victory.

Brooks scored a game-high 22 points and Jaxon Anderson was right behind with 21 as the pair accounted for 43 of South Range’s 58 points.

Harris had 20 points for the Irish, who connected on 11 three-points, seven coming in the first half.

South Range will play at Youngstown Mooney on Saturday.

LISBON — Alex Birtalan and Landon Baker combined for 41 points and 20 rebounds in leading United past Lisbon, 71-63, in overtime in Tuesday’s Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference opener.

Birtalan totaled 21 points and 13 rebounds, while Baker collected 20 points and seven rebounds.

United improves to 2-0 overall, while Lisbon moves to 1-2.

The Eagles built a 47-35 lead after three quarters and Lisbon rallied to tie it up at 59-59 at the end of regulation.

Brutus Ogilvie added eight points to the Eagle attack.

For Lisbon, Logan Bell had 16 points, Michael Davis 14 points, three assists and three steals, Joey Fisher 12 points and four rebounds, Brice Blackburn nine points and Ryan McCullough had five rebounds and four assists.

United also won the junior varsity game, 38-25, as Nate Miller scored 10 points.

Both teams play Friday as United host league favorite Toronto and Lisbon travels to East Palestine.

MINERVA — Dover held Minerva to 11 points in the first half and rolled to a 50-30 win in the Lions’ season opener Tuesday.

Dover improves to 3-0.

Minerva was led by Brice Williams’ 14 points.

Dover also won the reserve game, 51-24.

Minerva will play at Alliance on Friday.

LEETONIA — Southern Local bounced Leetonia 74-52 on Tuesday to open Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference boys basketball play.

Max Hart had 17 points to lead the Indians (1-0, 1-0), while Brad and Jayce Sloan had 12 points each. Cam Grodhaus also broke into double-figures with 11 points. Jayce Sloan also grabbed seven rebounds and had four steals. Hart, Grodhaus and Brady Tolson had four rebounds each. Brock Smalley had five assists.

Leetonia (0-2, 0-1) was sparked by Ian Davis with 14 points. Marco Ferry had 13 points.

Southern won the jayvee portion, 62-32. James Burris had 12 points for the Indians. Patrick Hall had nine points for the Bears.

Leetonia is at Wellsville on Friday. Southern hosts Columbiana on Friday.

COLUMBIANA — Columbiana got 15 points and five assists from Ryan Fahs as the Clippers secured a 62-57 win over East Palestine in an Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference battle on Tuesday.

Erik Hopfenziz had 13 points, while Seth Ross added 11 points for the Clippers. Matthew Mazei had eight points and nine rebounds.

Parker Sherry had 21 points to lead East Palestine. John Bertovitch had 14 points.

Columbiana won the jayvee game, 46-30. Dalton Whitehair scored 13 for the Clippers.

Columbiana is at Southern on Friday. East Palestine hosts Lisbon on Friday.

STRUTHERS — Struthers came back from a halftime deficit to dump Sebring 61-51 on Tuesday at Struthers Fieldhouse.

Brandon Washington and Trey Metzka had 17 points each for the Wildcats, 1-0. Kevin Traylor added 15 points.

Joey Clark had 19 points for the Trojans, 2-1. Gabe Lanzer added 14 points. Zane Peterson and Lanzer had eight rebounds each. Trent Richey chipped in 10 points.
