Rebels keep Rockets grounded

COLUMBIANA — Tanner Hoffer scored all 14 of her points in the first quarter to put the Crestview girls on their way to an 81-15 win over Lowellville on Thursday.

The Rebels improve to 7-2.

Krista Perry had a game-high 16 points, four steals and two blocks for the Rebels. Shianna Mathes added 10 points, Shelby Rambo nine points and five steals, Payton Huff four assists and seven steals, Mara Halas six assists, Haley Eskra three assists, Addison Bandy three assists and three steals, Ashton Hughes four steals and Hoffer seven rebounds.

The Rebels jumped out to a 21-4 lead in the first quarter and 41-9 advantange at halftime.

Crestview, which was shooting 71 percent from the foul line, converted 6-of-18 free throws Thursday.

No junior varsity game was played due to a lack of Lowellville players.

Crestview will host Newton Falls on Jan. 4. The junior varsity game will start at noon.

COLUMBIANA — Riley Felton had 15 points, 10 rebounds, six blocks and three assists as Southern downed Heartland 35-30 on Thursday in girls basketball action.

Southern is 2-7 and is at Toronto on Jan. 3.

Julia Reynolds had 11 points for the Lions.

Hannah Hayes added 10 points, four rebounds and four assists for the Indians. Sam Michael had five rebounds, three steals and seven assists. Aubrianna Mellott had seven board and three assists.

SEBRING — Sebring’s girls basketball team got 20 points from Kylei Jays as it downed Campbell Memorial 42-40 on Thursday.

Emma Whaley added eight points for the Trojans.

NORTH JACKSON — Columbiana’s boys basketball team raced to a 65-38 win over Jackson-Milton on Thursday at the Bluejays holiday tournament.

Columbiana was led by Erik Hopfenziz’s 15 points. Hunter Zentner had five points, 15 rebounds, five assists and five steals. Matt Mazei had 12 points and seven rebounds.

Columbiana returns to action today at the tournament.
