Wayt takes Barnesville title
BARNESVILLE — West Branch’s Christian Wayt emerged as the 120-pound champion at the Barnesville Doan Ford Invitational Saturday.
Wayt took down Huntington’s London Bowen with an 8-0 major decision in the championship match.
The Warriors took fourth place as a team with 151 points. Indian Valley won the team title with 227 1/2 points. East Liverpool was 17th with 63 points.
Also for West Branch, Kenny Marra was the runner-up in the 195-pound bracket. Marra was pinned by Drake Dobson from Martins Ferry at the 1:24 mark in the championship match.
West Branch’s Neil Ginnetti took third in the 182-pound bracket by pinning Richard McFarland from Martins Ferry at the 0:44 mark. Jacob Hurst earned a third-place finish for West Branch in the heavyweight competition. Hurst pinned Claymont’s Cameron Brown at the 1:10 mark.
East Liverpool’s Skylor Wooley wrestled his way to a third-place finish in the 220-pound bracket. Wooley pinned Mercer’s P.J. Boggs at the 2:30 mark of the consolation finals.
Also for the Potters, 120-pounder Howard Williams earned a fourth-place finish. Williams dropped a tough 4-3 decision to Coshocton’s Austin Guthrie in the consolation finals.
