Eagles edge Devils

HANOVERTON — Six United players scored during a 28-12 second-half run that gave the Eagles a 57-41 win over Lisbon on Tuesday.

Leading the Eagles were Parker Hydrick with 18 points, Lander Baker 17 points and 17 rebounds and Alex Birtalan nine points and eight rebounds.

United improves to 7-3 overall and 5-2 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference, two games behind Toronto. The Eagles will play at Toronto on Friday.

The Blue Devils are 4-8 and 2-6 EOAC.

Lisbon got 19 points and 12 rebounds from Justin Sweeney and 11 points from Ryan McCullough.

After playing to a 29-29 tie in the first half, United opened up a 44-34 lead after three quarters. The Eagles were 7-of-12 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to pull away.

United also won the junior varsity game, 40-31, behind Nate Miller’s 21 points. Blayne Brownfield and Kaden Crawford each scored 12 point sfor the Blue Devils.

Lisbon will host East Palestine on Friday.

Toronto 73, Wellsville 62

WELLSVILLE — State-ranked Toronto overcame a 14-point deficit in the second quarter to beat Wellsville, 73-62, in a key Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference encounter Tuesday.

The Red Knights, ranked fourth in the Division IV state poll, improve to 11-1 overall and 7-0 in the EOAC, two games ahead of Wellsville and United.

Wellsville moves to 7-3 and 5-2 EOAC.

Trillion West score d agame-high 23 points for Toronto. Nthan Karaffa added 17 points, A.J. Clegg 13, Luke Gulcysnki 11 and Nick Sninchik nine.

The Red Knights rallied from the early deficit to take a 37-31 halftime lead. They widened the margin to 60-48 after three quarters. Wellsville closed the defit to four points in the fourth quarter, but could not get closer as the Red Knights made their free throws down the stretch.

Wellsville got a team-high 16 points from Justin Wright. Luke Green contributed 14 points, Garrett Scott 13 points, Darien Suggs 10 points and seven rebounds and Derrick Suggs nine points and five rebounds.

Toronto also won the junior varsity game, 30-22, as Caleb Leasure scored nine points. Levi Boley had 10 points for the Tigers.

Both teams play Friday as Wellsville travels to Leetonia and Toronto hosts United.

EAST PALESTINE — A third-quarter explosion of offense and defense led the Columbiana boys basketball team to a 65-55 win over East Palestine on Tuesday in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference.

Ryan Fahs led the Clippers with 21 points, 6-8, 3-5. Hunter Zentner had 15 points and six boards, while Matt Mazei had 13 points and nine rebounds.

Dom Posey scored 23 points to lead the Bulldogs, 2-8, 2-5.

Abel Figley added 11 points.

Columbiana outscored the Bulldogs 22-3 in the third quarter to take control.

East Palestine won the jayvee game, 41-40.

Columbiana hosts Southern on Friday, while East Palestine hosts Lisbon.
