Golden Eagles surround Bears

HANOVERTON — Loren Swords had 12 points as United used a balanced attack to down Leetonia 44-25 in an Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference encounter.

Destiny Hill added eight points for the Eagles, 8-7, 7-4.

Taran Ferry, Ari Russell and Megan Rosko had seven points each for the Bears.

Leetonia won the two-quarter jayvee game, 14-9.

Haleigh Brock had eight points for the Bears. Erin Brickner had six points for the Eagles.

United is off until next Friday when entertains Wellsville as part of a boy-girl doubleheader. Leetonia’s girls are at Lisbon next Friday.

SEBRING — Springfield outscored Sebring a combined 42-10 in the first and fourth quarters for a 65-44 win Thursday.

Seven players scored for Springfield in the first quarter as the Tigers opened up a 19-6 lead. Sebring closed within 42-40 after three quarters before Springfield pulled away with a 23-4 fourth-quarter outburst.

The Tigers had four players in double figures with Marlie Applegarth and Makenzy Capouellez each scoring 14 points and Abby Joseph and Mariah Johnson with 11 apiece.

Kyleisha Jays topped Sebring with a game-high 23 points, all in the opening three quarters. Emma Whaley added 11 and Devyn Reggi eight.

Both teams play next Thursday with Springfield hosting Mineral Ridge and Sebring at state-ranked McDonald.

Western Reserve 101, Lowellville 15

BERLIN CENTER — Eight Western Reserve players combined for 12 three-pointers as the state-ranked Blue Devils ran over Lowellville, 101-15, in Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference play Thursday.

Western Reseve, ranked 10th in the Division IV state poll, opened up a 91-9 lead through three quarters to win for the 15th time in 16 games.

The 101 points was a school record, smashing the previous mark of 87. It was the second time this season the Blue Devils made 12 three-pointers to tie the school record.

It was a team effort for the Blue Devils with Danielle Vuletich scoring 23 points through three quarters and making six steals; Alyssa Serensky 15 points and seven assists; Laura Sigworth 14 points and six rebounds; Kennedy Miller 10 points, 11 assists and seven steals; Olivia Pater nine points and five steals; Emma Heater nine points; and Brooke Morris six rebounds.

Sam Moore accounted for most of Lowellville’s scoring with nine points.

Western Reserve also rolled in the two-quarter junior varsity game, 34-5. Emma Heater scored 11 points and Alyssa Herron eight for the Blue Devils.

Western Reserve will host Waterloo next Thursday.

South Range 60,

Lakeview 23

CORTLAND — South Range’s girls basketball team beat Lakeview 60-23 on Thursday in Northeast 8 action.

South Range is 7-6 and 6-3 and will host Hubbard next Thursday.

Izzy Lamparty had 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Raiders. Emily Irons had 12 points, while Bree Kohler had eight points, 12 rebounds, seven steals and five assists.

Schedule change

EAST PALESTINE — The Toronto at East Palestine girls basketball game on Thursday was postponed until Jan. 23.

The jayvee will tip at 5:30 p.m. with varsity to follow.
