Rebels show some fight vs. Indians

SALINEVILLE — Southern Local rallied from an early 15-point deficit to beat Crestview, 57-53, Tuesday.

The Indians trailed 24-9 early in the second quarter and 33-25 at halftime before Cam Grodhaus opened the third quarter with a three-pointer to put the Indians on their way.

Grodhaus had a game-high 26 points and seven rebounds. Jayce Sloan contributed 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Nick May added eight points and six rebounds. Bradly Sloan had three assists and two blocks and Brock Smalley dished out three assists.

Southern improves to 8-4, while Crestview falls to 2-9.

Drake Golden led the Rebels with 19 points. Jude Riffle followed with 13.

Southern also won the junior varsity game, 49-37. James Burris scored 10 points and Sam May nine for the Indians.

Southern will play at Wellsville on Friday, while Crestview is scheduled to play at Ashtabula Edgewood on Saturday.

GIRARD — Chris Brooks scored 14 points during a 23-13 run that lifted South Range a 53-45 win over Girard on Tuesday.

Brooks finished with a game-high 24 points. Jaxon Anderson added eight points.

South Range improves to 9-4 overall and 4-2 in the Northeast 8.

Austin Claussell topped Girard with 19 points.

South Range also won the junior varsity game, 53-23.

The Raiders will host Jefferson Area on Friday.

MINERVA — Sandy Valley opened up a 21-6 lead in the first quarter and held on to beat Minerva, 51-46, Tuesday.

Sandy Valley improves to 10-3, while Minerva falls to 3-10.

Minerva outscored Malvern in each of the last three quarters, but could not overcome the 15-point first-quarter deficit.

Dante Tucci and Nich Marchard both scored 12 points for the Hornets.

Brice Williams topped the Lions with a game-high 18 points.

Minerva won the junior varsity game, 57-54, in double overtime.

The Lions will host Alliance on Friday.

COLUMBIANA — Ryan Fahs had 19 points and five assists, while Sean Whitehead had 18 points to lead Columbiana to a 69-62 win over Mineral Ridge on Tuesday.

Erik Hopfenziz added 13 points and four assists for the Clippers, 8-6.

Hunter Zentner had 10 boards, while Matthew Mazei had nine rebounds.

Columbiana won the jayvee portion 53-33.

Dalton Whitehair had 20 points, while Xathon Cross added 12 points.

Columbiana is at Lisbon for a boy-girl doubleheader on Friday.

SEBRING — Gabe Lanzer had 28 points and 12 rebounds as Sebring burned Leetonia 91-48 on Tuesday.

Sebring improved to 6-7, while Leetonia fell to 2-12.

Joey Clark added 19 points for the Trojans who sunk 13 three-pointers.

Brock Simpson had 13 points for the Bears.

Leetonia won the jayvee portion, 52-50.

Sebring is at Western Reserve on Friday, while Leetonia will travel to United.
