Bears go the distance to earn third win

LEETONIA — The Leetonia boys basketball team closed out its regular season with a 55-54 win over Heartland on Friday.

Leetonia finishes 3-19.

Brock Simpson paced the Bears with 17 points, while Ethan Hartman had 15 points and eight rebounds.

Senior Roman Ferry, who had been injured all season, started for the winners.

Ronald Matthews led Heartland with 17 points.

Leetonia is at Southern for the start of the Div. IV sectional tournament on Feb. 26.

Leetonia won the jayvee portion, 52-43. Pat Hull had 26 points for Leetonia. Nate Garzanich and Hayden Stewart had 14 points each for the Lions.

NEW MIDDLETOWN — Drew Clark had 20 points and Shane Eynon added 17 more as Springfield downed Columbiana 63-49 on Friday.

Erik Hopfenziz had 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Clippers. Matt Mazei added 15 points and eight rebounds.

Columbiana fell to 11-8.

Jefferson 48

ASHTABULA — South Range feasted on another Northeast 8 opponent in a 74-48 win over Ashtabula Jefferson on Friday.

Chris Brooks paved the way for the victory with 21 points as Eli Taylor had 11 points.

South Range is 16-6 and will have a bit of a wait for its next game. The Raiders will host the winner of Columbiana and East Palestine in a Div. III sectional final on March 1.

South Range won the jayvee game, 57-48.
