Lions knock off Quakers

MINERVA–The Minerva girls basketball team created a logjam atop the Eastern Buckeye Conference Standings with a 41-38 overtime victory over Salem Saturday.

The Quakers fall to 13-5 overall and 8-2 in the EBC. Minerva improves to 13-3, 7-2. West Branch is also 7-2 in the EBC.

The Lions trailed by four going into the fourth quarter, but outscored the Quakers 12-8 in the final frame and limited them to one point in overtime.

Nelle Yankovich led Minerva with 15 points. Elyssa Imler added 11 points.

Echo Mayer-Kutz led the Quakers with 14 points. Casey Johnson had 10 points.

Salem won the junior varsity game, 20-16.

Leetonia 52, Sebring 21

LEETONIA–The Leetonia girls basketball team defeated Sebring 52-21 on Saturday.

Allison Francosky led the Bears with 12 points. Ari Russell contributed 11 points, 11 rebounds and six steals. Anna Buffone dished out six assists.

Leetonia improves to 10-9 overall.

Emma Whaley led the Trojans with seven points. Delaney Reggi and Aebi D’Ostroph each had six rebounds and Devyn Reggi made four steals.

Sebring is at Heartland Monday.

MALVERN–The Lisbon girls basketball team clobbered Malvern 52-24 on Saturday.

Lisbon is now 13-5 overall.

For the Blue Devils, Maddie Liberati led the way with 18 points, five rebounds and a pair of blocks. Izzy Perez scored 14 points, handed out four assists and came up with four steals. Chloe Smith added 12 points and four steals.

Corinne Freeman also had three blocks.

Lisbon hosts Lowellville Monday.

STRUTHERS–The Western Reserve girls basketball team fell to Struthers 57-48 on Saturday.

Dani Vuletich scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Western Reserve. Brooke Morris had eight points and six rebounds.

Struthers won the JV game 33-26. Morgan Donithan led the Blue Devils with 10 points.

Newton Falls 47, Crestview 42

NEWTON FALLS — Crestview took too long to get going Saturday afternoon.

The Rebels scored 18 points in the fourth quarter and fell short in a 47-42 All-American Conference loss to Newton Falls.

Libby Barecca led the Tigers with 15 points, followed by Allison Sembach and Bree Hutson with 13 points apiece.

Tanner Hoffer topped the Rebels with 12 points, 14 rebounds and four steals. Kristy Perry also scored 12 points, while Haley Eskra had nine pionts and Mara Malas had three assists.

Crestview moves to 11-5 overall and 5-5 in the AAC.

Newton Falls also won the junior varsity game, 24-20. Emily Hill scored four points for the Rebels.

Crestview will play at Springfield on Monday and host Brookfield for a girls-boys doubleheader Tuesday.
