Eagles soar past Clippers

HANOVERTON–Shane Black threw a six-inning no-hitter as the United baseball team stormed past Columbiana 10-0 in six innings in a Div. III sectional opener Monday.

The seventh-seeded Eagles advance to take on second-seeded Canton Central Catholic in a sectional final Thursday.

Black turned in a dominant effort with 10 strikeouts and no walks. The only Columbiana baserunner reached on an error.

At the plate, Parker Hydrick went 4-for-4 with an RBI to lead the Eagles. Brady Leyman went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Ethan McDevitt added a double and three RBIs. Alex Birtalan also had a pair of RBIs.

Tourney action rained out

The Columbiana at United Division III sectional baseball game was the only local tournament contest not rained out Monday.

All the postponed games have been rescheduled for this afternoon.

The Division IV softball district semifinal at Jackson-Milton Elementary has Lisbon vs. East Canton at 4:30 p.m. and East Palestine vs. McDonald at 6 p.m.

The sectional baseball games include Waterloo at Crestview and East Palestine at Western Reserve in Division III and Struthers at Salem and Youngstown East in Division II. Today’s baseball games are scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
