Quakers sweep Warriors

CARROLLTON — Salem swept the season series from Carrollton with a 5-4 win over the Warriors on Wednesday.

Salem improves to 12-11 and 7-5 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference.

Adam Wilson struck out 11 as he went the distance in recording his fourth EBC win of the season.

Turner Johnson scored on a hit by Lane Rhodes in the first. Rhodes, Wilson and Blaize Exline had doubles in the fourth to add two more runs. Carrollton took the lead with four in the fourth before Joey Watson’s two run single in the seventh gave Salem the lead for good.

Salem will travel to Eastwood Field to play Western Reserve today.

Southern 11, Youngstown East 1

SALINEVILLE–The Southern baseball team broke a school record for wins in a season as the Indians knocked off Youngstown East 11-1 on Wednesday.

Southern is now 12-9 on the season and will host Sebring in a Div. IV sectional opener Tuesday.

Caleb Glover led the way at the plate with four hits and three RBIs. Timmy West added two singles, a double and two RBIs. Conner lewis had a double, single and two RBIs.

STRUTHERS–Columbiana scored three runs in the top of the seventh to get past Struthers 5-3 in baseball action Wednesday at Cene Park.

Evan Kenneally gave the Clippers (12-9) the lead for good in the seventh with a n RBI single. Seth Ross started the inning with a single, followed by a Chase Franken walk. Erik Hopfenziz gave the Clippers some insurance with an RBI single.

Kenneally finished the game with three hits and two RBIs, while Hopfenziz had two hits. Franken had a single, two walks and three runs scored. Ryan Fahs earned the complete-game victory.

Columbiana takes on Western Reserve Academy at 7 p.m. today at Canal Park in Akron.

Newton Falls 2

COLUMBIANA–Devin Turvey pitched a complete game as Crestview defeated Newton Falls 6-2 in All-American Conference Blue Tier action Wednesday.

The Rebels are now 13-8 overall and 9-2 in the AAC.

At the plate, Carter Blakeman finished with a two-run double, while Tyler Hurd also knocked in a pair of runs. Keith Berger added a pair of hits.

Crestview is at Champion Friday.

Western Reserve 13, Heartland 2

UNITY — Dan Windham had a home run and two RBIs as Western Reserve topped Heartland 13-2 on Wednesday.

Aaron Gault had two hits for the Lions, while Tom Kling had a hit and RBI. Caleb Graft also had a hit.

Western Reserve is 15-7. Heartland fell to 6-9.

Heartland is at McDonald today.

SEBRING — Waterloo’s baseball team bested Sebring 11-5 on Wednesday in Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference play.

Camden Green had two hits for Sebring, 1-11.

Sebring hosts Springfield Friday.
