Salem wins fourth straight
NILES — Freshman starter Brock Young gave up three earned runs over six innings for his first varsity win in leading Salem past Western Reserve, 9-7, at Eastwood Field on Thursday.
The Quakers (13-11) extended their win streak to four and ended Western Reserve’s at six. The Blue Devils are 15-8 on the season.
Salem scored six runs in the second inning off four walks and two hit batters.
Western Reserve scored two runs in the top of the third to cut the margin to 6-4.
Salem scored two runs in the fifth when Turner Johnson’s two-our single drove in Blaise Exline and Joey Watson.
Salem went up 9-4 in the sixth after Lane Rhodes doubled and Adam Wilson singled.
Western Reserve made it close with three runs in the seventh inning.
Salem will close out the regular season by hosting United at 7 p.m. today.

South Range 9, West Branch 8
GREENFORD–South Range senior Ben Rivera hit the first home run by a South Rnage player at the Raiders’ home field during a wild 9-8 senior night victory over West Branch Thursday.
The defending Div. III state champion Raiders improve to 19-4 overall. West Branch drops to 16-10.
Rivera’s two-run blast tied the game at 5 in the fifth. The Raiders surged ahead with a four run sixth then held on after the Warriors scored three in the top of the seventh.
Jared Bajerski had three hits for South Range, while Brandon Mikos had two hits including a triple and four RBIs. Rivera finished with three RBIs. Dylan Dominguez doubled.
David Cunningham had a double and four RBIs for the Warriors. Cole Bates had two hits including a triple and an RBI. Jared Butler went 2-for-3.
South Range is at Ursuline today.
