Dr. Shultz retiring and passing along patient care to Dr. Mackall

Shown are Dr. Herb Shultz who is retiring after 36 years in optometry practice and passing the care of his patients to Dr. Julie Mackall. Dr. Mackall joined the practice in 2004 when she graduated from The Ohio State University College of Optometry and has worked with Dr. Shultz for the past 11 years. In 2013 Dr. Mackall bought the practice and Dr. Shultz continued to see his patients and mentor her. The practice has a long history of providing eye care in Salem. It was originally started by Dr. George Jones in the 1940s and was located over the Penny’s store on State Street in downtown Salem. He moved it farther east on State Street to have a first floor office. Dr. Shultz joined him there in 1979 and worked with Dr. Jones until he retired in 1981. Dr. Shultz remained there for 20 years until he decided to move the business to its current location at 2400 Southeast Blvd. where Dr. Mackall will continue to care for patients. She is also accepting new patients. For information call 330-332-4501. (Submitted photo)
