LEETONIA – Cheryl Pittman has 50 years in the hair design and beauty shop business, some 33 years at Hair Designs by Cheryl at 67 Oak St. in the village.

In July, Karen Shultz Jones, who operated her own hair styling business, Karen Jones’ Hair Fashions in Leetonia for 18 years, joined Hair Designs by Cheryl.

Between the two, they have the kind of experience that few businesses can advertise.

Jones moved out of the area and has been back in Ohio for four years and wanted to get back into the hair design business.

“I’m trying to attract old clientele,” she said, “when I left, I recommended a lot of my customers to Cheryl and they went to her.”

Jones said, “We do shampoos, sets, curling irons, perms, colors, hair cuts, ear piercing and waxing.”

Jones added, “I owned my shop on 304 Walnut St. for 18 years and came back to Leetonia to help my mom out.

“I’ve always had the love of doing hair and I needed something to do, so I decided to help my neighbor out.

“Cheryl had surgery and decided I would stay and rebuild my clientele.”

Pittman said, “I couldn’t work for a couple of weeks and we talked and here she is.”

Having two people work the beauty stations helps especially at this time of year.

Pittman said, “It’s a very busy time of the year, and with all the holidays we are very busy.”

Jones is a 1969 Leetonia High School graduate and said she has been doing hair, “since I was 22.”

Hair Designs by Cheryl is by appointment on Tuesday through Saturday by calling 330-427-2180 or by calling Jones at 330-277-6293. Walk-ins are welcome.

Regular hours are from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
