‘Greenest — Living Thoughtfully’ opens above Pure Pet on Penn Ave.
SALEM — A new store called “Greenest — Living Thoughtfully” opened May 27 in an upstairs suite at 140 Penn Ave.
The thought behind the store, which co-owner Emily Ellsworth filled with several display sections of home, health, body, personal care, mineral makeups, coffee and tea and accessories, and household cleaning items, is stocked with natural and environmentally friendly merchandise.
The store joins Pure Pet, which is also co-owned by her and her husband, Keith, as a second business venture in the revitalized building they own on Penn Avenue.
Greenest — Living Thoughtfully is next to Vicki McGee’s boutique, Simply Scarves, and Pure Pet is on the first floor of the building.
Emily Ellsworth said, “I’ve always believed in using things with low impact to the environment … and are wholesome for the body and the rest of the world.”
So, Greenest now occupies 800 square feet of retail space where every product line she sells, like Dr. Bronner’s pure castile soaps, Neti Pots Himalayan salt lamps, holistic products, Himalayan honey by Heavenly Organics, Bug Soother (an all natural bug repellant) and natural deodorants along with natural sponges, candles and healthy snacks are produced in a environmentally responsible manner.
Also on display are Stevia “sweet leaf” organic sweeteners and leaf powder, Karmalize.me raw organic seeds and nuts, Aloha Bay scented essential oils and coconut candles, Chakra candles and beeswax candles.
Again, she said, “responsibly produced,” from sources that don’t damage the environment or hurt animals in any way.
Ellsworth put it this way, “I have eco-friendly cleaning products; limited ingredient natural soaps, lotions, hair and skin care; fair trade organic coffee, tea, and spices; eco palm and coconut wax candles …”
Other popular “green” products include incense; Blue Q recycled tote and zipper bags; handmade items made locally as well as fair-trade items from around the globe including necklaces, earrings, and bracelets, plus amber and hazelwood necklaces and quilted table runners,
Ellsworth said she hand-makes much or her own jewelry and has hand-painted pots in the succulent plant section along with moss terrariums and air plants.
She also offers quilted bibs for babies and adults, crocheted dish cloths; mom and baby care; bar soaps; limited ingredient organic candy from Yumearth with gluten-free licorice, suckers and hard candy.
“I will be doing make-it-and-take-it classes for those interested in learning more about topics such as succulent plants, herb gardening, and more,” she said.
