Leetonia schools looking for varsity volleyball head coach

LEETONIA–The Leetonia schools superintendent informed the school board that the varsity volleyball head coaching position is currently empty.

Schools Superintendent Rob Mehno reported that Leanna Meeks has resigned as varsity volleyball head coach to pursue her master’s degree. She had been the volleyball head coach the past three years.

Meeks will remain with the district as a teacher.

Athletic Director Ed Ridgeway said the district is still searching for a replacement and has advertised the position in the local newspapers and online.

Mehno praised Meeks for her effort and time dedicated to the volleyball program.

Also at the meeting, the board granted supplemental coaching contracts to Larry Deidrick for assistant varsity softball and Shawn Yocum and Ron Yoakam for assistant softball volunteers for 2018-2019 and Paul Hulea for head varsity football, Paul John Gray for head varsity golf and Charles “Tony” Ford for head varsity cross country for 2019-2020.

In other business, the board approved the College Credit Plus Master Agreement with Kent State University and named Kelly Rulli as compliance officer for credit card usage.

The board also accepted donations of $1,000 from Cleone Smith for the Ed Smith Scholarship Fund, $500 from Walter Rohrer and Colleen Dattilio for the Judy L. Rohrer Memorial Scholarship Fund, $500 from the Leetonia Area Sports Association for boys basketball, $500 from the Leetonia Area Sports Association for girls basketball, $250 from the Leetonia Area Sports Association for boys baseball, $170 from Chad Moreschi for basketball shirts and 322 books from various individuals for the library.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Feb. 21 in Room 20 of the K-12 campus.
