The 6th annual Steps of Change attracted 300 people to the Salem Community Center Saturday. Sponsored by Ohio CAN of Columbiana County the event featured resource tables, basket auctions and Disney characters. A highlight was the Shoe Memorial/Mile Walk which honored deceased loved ones lost through substance abuse. Shown here looking at a shoe and photo display of overdose victims are Jennifer and Scott Madison from Salineville. Scott lost a brother, Steve, to an

overdose two years ago and his 36-year-old son, Justin, “one year and 24 days ago” to an overdose. (Salem News photo by J.D. Creer)
