Lisbon schedules paving work

LISBON — Some Lisbon streets will get updated over the next few weeks after village council moved $30,000 into the capital improvement fund to help cover its share of the asphalting costs.

The street paving will total $174,599, but $141,050 of that is being covered by the Ohio Public Works Commission. The village’s entire portion is $33,548.

The blacktopping project will encompass all of Beaver Street, Jefferson Street from High Street to state Route 164, Spruce Street from Jefferson Street to Market Street and Grant Street in the area near the bridge.

The work is slated to begin after the county fair.

There could also be some work to the area around the Greenway Trail in the future. Councilman Peter Wilson reported he has been talking to someone with the engineering firm, Dallis Dawson and Associates, about the potential bridge project to link the Greenway Trail to the Willow Grove Park. He told council the firm has offered to provide a free pre-engineering study and help look for grants for the project, which could possibly run between $200,000 and $300,000.

In another matter, the village is still looking for people interested in participating on the committee of the Community Reinvestment Area. The seven member housing committee is to consist of two mayoral appointees, one by the village planning commission and two people appointed by council. Then the five people will meet and appoint two more. Councilman Ryan Berg said so far the village has received five letters of interest. The final two people must be village residents.

The CRA committee will meet once a year to review the tax breaks given through the CRA and to hear appeals for those denied.
