Open enrollment boosts Columbiana

COLUMBIANA — Open enrollment is continuing an upward trend in the Columbiana School District, with 255 students projected to attend all three schools in the new school year through open enrollment alone.

Superintendent Don Mook relayed that information to the board of education during the Tuesday meeting, adding that the district is projected to lose only 143 students through open enrollment.

“The district is growing with open enrollment students and less students are leaving the district for other schools,” he said.

In other matters, the board approved:

— The resignation of Brenna Flatley, high school teacher.

— Shawna Shipley and Tiana Parind as aide/paraprofessionals.

— Nancy Tirpak and EMIS Coordinator/Administrative Secretary, effective Aug. 1, 2019 through July 31, 2022.

— A supplemental contract for Ryan Wolf, head baseball coach.

— Supplemental contracts for Kathy Martin, Patricia Martig, Hannah Mowery, Lisa Malcomson, Alana Rivello, Brandi Brown, Susan Cappuzzello, Rae Ann Gorby, Audra Hatch, Colleen McNeal, Ron Moser, Amanda Moore, Meg Silver, Megan Cown, Charles Miller, Stephanie Baylor, Cathi Raub-Carney, Jennifer Fry, Amy Moreschi, Jennifer Sant, Jody Edwards, Paul Hostetter, Tricia Missos, Kristi Ebben, Janet Prindle, Amy McCormick, Jordan Graham, Zach Hertel, Kendal Rich, Tyler Best, Ryan Holmes, and Caleb Sims.

— Amy Baker as flagline auxiliary unit adviser.

— A resolution adopting a calamity day alternative make-up plan.

— A contract with Mahoning County High School to provide certain services for special needs students as required by I.E.P., effective July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020.
