Goshen trustees OK gym roof repairs

GOSHEN TWP. — Township trustees will be using money from an energy grant to repair holes in the gymnasium roof at the administration building.

Trustees this week approved $3,275 for Allied Commercial Roofing to seal the holes with metal as well as inspect the rest of the roof and repair it as needed. Trustee Chair Bob McCracken said birds have been burrowing through the holes and entering the gymnasium the past couple years.

The trustees will be paying for the project with the grant money they received from switching to Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council (NOPEC) as electrical aggregation provider. The township received approximately $1,700 last year and will receive approximately the same amount this year year that can only be used for energy efficiency projects.

McCracken noted the trustees did not need to seek bids since the total project cost is under $5,000 and the contractor has already worked on the roof.

In other business, the trustees approved a resolution to accept the updated solid waste management plan presented by the Mahoning County Solid Waste Management District.

McCracken said the plan is essentially the same as in previous years, with the only item of interest being the possibility of the district paving the haul road to the landfill.

The trustees also authorized Road Supervisor Matt Springer to seek a second company to pour cemetery foundations as needed.

The township this year switched to pouring foundations on an as needed basis instead of seasonal in order to better meet the needs of those burying loved ones in the cemeteries. However, Springer said there have been issues with the current company being able to pour the foundations when needed. Trustees said having the two companies available could help solve the issue.
