Leetonia plans hydrant flushing in September

LEETONIA–The water/sewer department will conduct hydrant flushing in September.

Village administrators announced at village council’s meeting Wednesday night that flushing will begin Sept. 9 on the northside (north of High Street). He said the north side will likely take two weeks to complete before moving to the south side. The south side should take approximately three weeks to complete, with the whole process expected to be finished by mid-October, Phillips said.

Phillips said residents can expect low pressure and discoloration of water during the process.

Also at the meeting, Mayor Kevin Siembida reported The Dragonhold Fantasy Festival is scheduled for Oct. 12 at the historic Beehive Coke Ovens. The medieval fantasy event will be a one-day affair this year. Last year the weekend was essentially rained out. Siembida said more information will be forthcoming.

The 44th annual National Hunting & Fishing Day Kid’s Day is scheduled for 9 a.m. Sept. 28 at Leetonia Sportsman’s Club. The free event is for children ages 5 through 16 accompanied by an adult. There will be prizes for shooting, fishing and archery contests in addition to a weiner roast. Participants are encouraged to bring fishing rods, but rifles and bows are prohibited.

Siembida’s State of the Village Address is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Leetonia Community Public Library, followed by the regular village council meeting at 6:30 p.m.

The next regular council meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Sept. 4 at village hall.
