Columbiana County jobless rate unchanged
LISBON –Columbiana County’s unemployment rate remained unchanged in October after declining the previous two months.
The county’s jobless rate was 4.8 percent, according to figures released Tuesday by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Meanwhile, the state’s unemployment rate also remained unchanged at 4.2 percent, while the national rate increased slightly, from 3.5 percent in September to 3.6 percent.
The county was among 13 Ohio counties where the unemployment rate remained unchanged in October. The rate increased in 18 other counties and decreased in the remaining 57. The county’s rate was the 27th highest.
Among adjoining Ohio counties, the county’s jobless rate was higher than Stark (4.3 percent) but lower than Mahoning (5.5 percent), Carroll (4.9 percent) and Jefferson (6.1 percent).
Approximately 1,453 residents received unemployment benefits in October, up from 1,506 the month before. The number of newly furloughed workers receiving their first check nearly doubled from 60 to 121. The average weekly benefit last month was $377.
The number of county residents with jobs in October was 45,100, an increase of 100.
