East Palestine preparing to fill vacancies at year’s end
EAST PALESTINE– As the end of the year comes closer, village council is preparing to fill various board of commission positions that will be expiring on Dec. 31, as well as a vacant village council seat. At Monday’s meeting, council decided to reach out to the community and ask for letters of interest to fill those positions.
The positions that will become available are in the Zoning Board of Appeals, Library Board, Board of Housing Appeals, Community Reinvestment Area and Tree Commission. The deadline for all letters of interest has been set for noon on Dec. 6.
In other business, East Palestine has been awarded a 95 percent grant for the Park Drive bridge project. The awarded amount is over $915,000, and the village will be responsible for a five percent match.
The project is planned to be available for bidding in April of 2022 with the project starting in September of that year. It is planned to be finished by the start of June 2023, which would have minimal impact on the summer activities in the park.
Law Director Dave Powers offered the idea of having employee driving rules and regulations, which was recommended by the village’s insurance carrier.
“We’ve run into some situations in the past where we were in uncharted territory,” Powers said. “I think if we have rules and regulations, it would give us a clear understanding of what we need to do when something happens.”
Powers said he will take feedback from council and personalize the rules and regulations for the village.
The next meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Nov. 25.
