BWD switches insurance carriers

WELLSVILLE — The Buckeye Water District is changing health insurance carriers to save money.

The BWD board voted this week to switch from their insurance carrier to Anthem starting in 2020, a move that will save them a significant amount of money.

BWD Fiscal Officer Tiffany Chetock said the board hired an insurance broker to shop around for other quotes after the carrier advised them its cost would increase by 27.4 percent next year, or $45,000.

The broker obtained a quote from Anthem and the board decided to go with them. In 2019, the BWD was paying $12,784 per month, which could have increased to $15,602 with the current carrier.

Under the 16-month contract with Anthem, the BWD’s monthly cost will drop to $11,686 January through April before increasing to $11,882 per month for the remainder of the pact. While the coverage is the same,

Chetock said they are increasing deductibles from $4,000 to $5,000 for individuals and from $8,000 to $10,000 for families.

Fourteen employees are covered by the plan.
