Columbiana council approves Ruritan car show on Main Street

COLUMBIANA–City council approved the request from the Fairfield Ruritan Club to hold its annual Classic, Custom and Antique Car Show at Tuesday’s council meeting.

The event, which is scheduled for July 12, serves as one of the club’s best promotions to help support the Fairfield Ruritan Scholarship Fund, which is provided to students in Columbiana High School and Crestview High School each year.

The club will utilize South Main Street all day of the show, and the actual show will begin around noon after churches dismiss.

In other business, City Manager Lance Willard updated the board that he spoke with the writer of the Hallmark Christmas Index piece, and she is in the process of writing a more lengthy piece specifically about Columbiana. Since the writer is looking for a lot of pictures and information, the Tourism Bureau, Chamber of Commerce and private individuals have all helped compiling everything that is needed for the article.

Artist Ty Guy has also given prints of the city to be included in the write-up.

“We’re really looking forward to everything going on with that,” Willard said. “Getting Ty some professional exposure would be nice too.”

The county EMA reached out to council reminding them to pass a resolution to accept the Columbiana County Hazard Mitigation Plan. Willard recommended accepting the resolution, as they must be on the plan to accept any FEMA money, which will happen soon with the storm water project.

Willard will also be meeting with Master Plan to discuss the incentives (TIF and CRA) and options for the New Lakefront project. It is his goal to bring council an agreement to approve at a future council meeting.

The next regularly scheduled council meeting is 7 p.m. Feb. 4.
