Pirates CARE-a-van will visit Columbiana Thursday
COLUMBIANA — The Columbiana Clippers baseball and softball teams will get a chance to meet with some members of the Pittsburgh Pirates organization when the 2020 Pirates CARE-a-van swings through Columbiana County on Thursday.
Pittsburgh Pirate third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes, pitcher Cody Ponce, pitcher Yacksel Rios, pitching coach Oscar Marin and bullpen coach Justin Meccage are scheduled to do a question and answer session with members of the Clippers teams from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Thursday in the Columbiana Middle School gymnasium. The event is not open to the public.
That same group will visit the Davis Family YMCA in Youngstown in the morning to meet with elementary school students and a Silver Sneakers fitness class for older adults.
Following the Q and A session in Columbiana the group will head to the New Castle (Pa.) Area School District elementary school to conduct a baseball and softball clinic along with members of the New Castle High School baseball and softball programs.
The CARE-a-van features four separate groups of players and coaches traveling to public and private community action events throughout the region. The three-day tour of the region leads up to the PiratesFest set for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday at PNC Park.
