Sixteen teams from six Columbiana County schools competed in the Columbiana County Educational Service Center’s VEX Robotics Finals on Saturday at Leetonia High School. Participating were Columbiana, Crestview, East Palestine, Leetonia, Salem and Wellsville. Leetonia prevailed as the final winners with Wellsville finishing as runner-ups. Leetonia and Wellsville will compete at the state championship in Marion on March 7, where 85 teams are scheduled to compete. Additionally, Team D from East Palestine took home the Judges Award for exemplary team effort and Team A from Crestview was the winner of the Design Award for design creativity. Robotics League coordinator Jeff Gill said this year was a success and anticipates another competition next year utilizing the same format. The two Leetonia teams competed as an alliance and as such are both considered champions.
