WB board moves toward new treasurer

BELOIT – The West Branch school board will get help from the Mahoning County Educational Service Center until finding a new treasurer.

The board this week approved a cooperative agreement with the MCESC for Ryan Jones, MCESC treasurer, to serve as interim treasurer at West Branch retroactive to Feb. 10 on an as needed basis through June 30. Schools

Superintendent Timothy Saxton said after the meeting the MCESC will likely provide the service at no cost, but a contract has to be developed that stipulates the number of days Jones will be used. The number of days will determine if there will be any cost.

The board on Feb. 8 accepted the resignation of school Treasurer David Drawl effective Feb. 28, then on Thursday granted him administrative leave for the remainder of his employment. Saxton said the leave is so that Drawl can transition into his new job and continue to assist the district as needed while avoiding any issues with his turning over the district finances.

Saxton noted the position has already been posted and the district has received multiple applications.

The district issued a press release Friday saying applications for the position will be accepted through Feb. 28.

Potential candidates must possess a valid Ohio Treasurer’s License and have a record of success in school finance, preferably as a school treasurer. Candidates with central office experience and school finance experience will be considered.

Candidates are asked to submit a letter emphasizing their qualifications, recent achievements and reasons for interest in the position, along with a current resume and a copy of a valid Ohio Treasurer’s License. Official transcripts, references and copy of their most recent five-year forecast should also be submitted.

Qualified candidates interested in acquiring additional information and/or beginning the application process should visit the district website, at http://westbranch.k12.oh.us and click on the “Treasurer Search” link.
