LEETONIA — The Leetonia school board this week approved a bid for construction of a new concession building at the stadium.

The board accepted a bid of $356,400 from Brock Builders of North Lima for the concession building as well as renovations to the fieldhouse. The bid is $282,745 for the concession building and $73,655 for the fieldhouse.

According to Maintenance Supervisor Dan Favazzo, the district received four bids and Brock Builders had the lowest. He said the concession building project, which includes restrooms, is scheduled to begin on Monday, with no delay expected from the shelter-at-home order in response to the COVID-19 crisis since construction for schools is considered essential.

A portion of the concession building project will be paid for from the permanent improvement fund and a portion from the general fund. The bid came in nearly $8,000 more than originally estimated, but a capital campaign continues in an effort to raise $100,000 for the project.

The original construction plans of the K-12 campus included the structure, so the area is already wired and plumbed for the building. The building will be a split face block to match the existing structures on campus.

Plans call for a 28-foot by 54-foot structure with a pitched roof that will allow for 16-feet by 28-feet of storage space. There will be double the current counter space and concession area with four indoor fryers with a hood a fire suppression and four serving windows. The restrooms will include seven stalls for women plus two stalls and three urinals for men.

The district has been using a trailer for concessions and portable toilets for restrooms. There are also a couple indoor restrooms at the weight room.

Community members and businesses wishing to make a donation should make checks payable to Leetonia Schools and mail them attention Treasurer Jennifer Coldsnow to 450 Walnut St., Leetonia OH 44431.
