Health dept. making sure businesses ‘do the right thing’

LISBON — Columbiana County remains with four confirmed coronavirus cases on Wednesday, even as the state number continues to rise to 704 confirmed cases. That number is up 140 cases from Tuesday.

Additionally, the Ohio Department of Health is reporting 182 hospitalizations, including 75 in the intensive care unit across the state. The number of deaths across the state is at 10.

Laura Fauss, public information director with the Columbiana County Health Department, said Wednesday was spent mostly trying to make sure businesses are complying with the state Medical Director Amy Acton’s orders regarding essential and non-essential businesses. The health department has received complaints and they are trying to address them with business owners, while still receiving push back.

“We just want to encourage everyone to do the right thing,” Fauss said, “even though we know that it is hard to do when there is money involved.”

A list of the businesses considered to be essential are available through a link on the state website coronavirus.ohio.gov.

The boxes of personal protection equipment (PPE) are being picked up by the hospitals, EMTs and fire departments. These are the items that arrived late Monday, which came from through the Strategic National Stockpile, items that were distributed from the federal level to the state level and then divided between the counties.

“Everybody is happy to get them,” Fauss said. “Everybody is certainly in need of them, that’s for sure.”

Health Commissioner Wes Vins updated the county commissioners during their weekly meeting on Wednesday.
