COLUMBIANA — The annual police memorial service to honor the fallen has been canceled this year, Quaker Lodge 88 Fraternal Order of Police President Michael Garber announced Thursday.
The remembrance had been planned for May 21 with Youngstown Police Chief Robin Lees as guest speaker, but due to the COVID-19 outbreak, there will be no service.
Anyone who already purchased a ticket will be issued a refund as soon as practical following appropriate social distancing. Garber offered thanks to Lees and to all who supported the annual event.

SALEM– Salem High School Class of 1948 has canceled its May 12 meeting.

SALEM — The Salem High School Class of 1965 has canceled its reunion originally scheduled in July due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

SALEM– Salem United Commercial Travelers Council #590 will not meet May 13 at Perkins Restaurant for a regular meeting due to COVID-19.
DVFD Night at the Races
DAMASCUS — With the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, Damascus Fire Department Fundraising Committee has postponed the Night at the Races fundraiser until next year.
Originally scheduled for April 4 and then rescheduled for May 16, the event has been moved to April 10, 2021 to avoid another postponement for this year. The time and venue remain the same. People should keep their tickets. All donations, sponsorships and tickets will be honored on that date. The fire department offered thanks for everyone’s patience and understanding. Quakertown Super Kids
SALEM– The Quakertown Super Kids Classic has been canceled due to COVID-19 restrictions. The race was originally scheduled for June 6. The National Super Kids committee has also announced there will be no National Super Kids Race this year.
Sponsors who have already sent in their sponsorship fee will be receiving a letter and their original check by mail soon.

LEETONIA — The Leetonia High School Classes of 1955-57 have canceled their meetings until further notice.
Winona Historical Society
WINONA– The Winona Area Historical Society has canceled spring and early summer activities including the Winona Strawberry Festival in late June, museum open houses and regular monthly meetings of the society. Winona’s traditional mid-May Memorial Celebration will also not be held this year.

YSU Summer Festival of Arts
YOUNGSTOWN – Youngstown State University’s 22nd annual Summer Festival of the Arts, originally scheduled for July 11 and 12, has been canceled due to the ongoing COVID health crisis.
Phyllis M. Paul, Dean of the Cliffe College of Creative Arts & Communication, said, “While it is never easy to cancel a long-standing event, this decision is prudent for the safety of all concerned.”
Potential plans for rescheduling this year, perhaps in fall, will be based on the Governor’s and university guidelines, and updates will be provided at the earliest possible opportunity.

Lions clubs activities
LISBON – All Lions clubs in District OH-4 have canceled all meetings, fundraising and activities until further notice by order of Lions District Governor Tony Deluke. This includes Lisbon Lions Bingo, the annual Easter egg hunt at the county fairgrounds and the Night at the Races. The 90-Second Shopping Spree has been postponed to a later date to be announced. These difficult decisions were made on the public health recommendations of the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), Gov. Mike DeWine, the Ohio Department of Health and the Columbiana County Health Department.

Salem Parks activities
SALEM – Due to the national emergency created by the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, the Salem Parks and Recreation Department will be prohibiting any organized activities from taking place anywhere in the parks system until further notice. These organized activities include practices and games for recreational baseball and softball teams, pavilion rentals, Go Wild in the Park programs or any other organized event or activity. Bathroom facilities will remain closed until the end of March, as in years past.
The Salem Parks offices will be closed to visitors but will remain open to park personnel. Call the office at 330-271-8913 for assistance or information.
CC Board of Elections
LISBON – The Columbiana County Board of Elections lobby will be closed to the public until further notice. Following the recommended guidelines set forth by both the federal and state government, the office made the decision to not only protect the public, but the staff as well.
“It is imperative to protect our office staff and keep them healthy to serve Columbiana County voters in future elections,” Director Kim Fusco said.
The office remains staffed during regular business hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday to assist the public via phone, fax, email and mail. Columbiana County residents are able to drop off absentee ballot requests in the main office doorway to be received by staff throughout the day. Voters wishing to obtain an absentee ballot request from the office can also find those forms in the main doorway. Additionally, the request form can be found on our website at www.columbiana.boe.ohio.gov.

FRC group counseling
SALEM – Family Recovery Center plans to reopen groups in phases, first focusing on those clients who may be new to treatment or who have been identified as being high risk for relapse. FRC will limit in-person groups to four or five clients to ensure proper social distancing in group rooms, provide masks to staff and clients, do a screening for symptoms and take the temperature of all who enter the building. Clients who may not want to come into the office due to anxiety or fear of getting sick will be offered the opportunity to join the group via Zoom where they can still interact and benefit from the group experience.
SCT postopones events
SALEM – The Salem Community Theatre (SCT) has postponed the upcoming production of “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” scheduled for May. Auditions for the summer production of “Beauty and the Beast” have also been placed on hold at this time.
The theatre’s board of directors issued a statement saying they intend to stage the productions once the health professionals deem it safe for social activities to start back up. At that time rehearsals will begin again and production started, meaning there is no timeline for when the productions will take place.
Season ticket holders will still receive the two productions even if they carry over into the “next season” in addition to another full season of SCT shows.
Maker’s Market Craft Show
SALEM – Maker’s Market Craft Show scheduled for April 18 at Quaker Hall on S. Lincoln Ave. has been postponed until Dec. 5.

MCTRA, Ohio means jobs
YOUNGSTOWN – All Mahoning and Columbiana Training Association (MCTA) offices and the Mahoning and Columbiana Counties’ OhioMeansJobs (One-Stop) centers including the Oakhill Satellite have been closed to the public. At this time, MCTA staff will continue to report to their assigned locations. Many services can be accessed online and staff will continue to assist customers via phone and email. Offices will re-open when deemed appropriate.
Lepper Library closed
LISBON – Lepper Library has been closed. There will be limited telephone help available during this time. While the book drop will continue to be open, there will be no overdue fines and holds will be suspended. All programming will also be canceled during this time. All online services, including eBooks and eAudio, will continue to be available. Check the library’s website and social media for updates.
Salem Library closed
SALEM – The Salem Public Library System is closing its facility and canceling all programs. All fines and late fees will be waived during this period. The library offers online access to eBooks and audiobooks on Overdrive as well as movies, eBooks and audiobooks on Hoopla. LEETONIA – The Leetonia Community Public Library will be limiting service to drive-up service only with the following hours: 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. The services will include holds pick-ups and book returns.

Mahoning County libraries
YOUNGSTOWN — The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County (PLYMC) has closed all of its libraries. PLYMC libraries include those in Sebring and Greenford. Patrons are encouraged to use the Library’s website and digital services. Due dates on library materials will be extended, so that Library patrons will not be charged fines for the time the libraries are closed, including for materials checked out through PLYMC’s libraries. Additionally, fines will not be charged for Search Ohio materials currently on-loan. Book drops will not be available for the return of books during this time. Patrons are advised not to leave materials outside the libraries; this could lead to damaged materials and the patron would be charged for damages and/or replacement materials.
Mill Creek MetroParks
YOUNGSTOWN- Mill Creek MetroParks is extending the cancellations of all previously scheduled programs, golf clinics/programs, events, lectures and facility rentals through May 1. Several indoor/outdoor public facilities will remain closed through May 1. In the event a registration fee or rental fee was paid, a full refund will be processed.
The following Mill Creek MetroParks indoor/outdoor locations will be closed to the public: Beginning March 13, the following Mill Creek MetroParks indoor locations will be closed to the public: MetroParks Farm Education Building and Animal Barns; all pavilions, cabins and reservable shelters; D.D. & Velma Davis Education and Visitors Center; Yellow Creek Lodge; Lanterman’s Mill; and Wick Warming House. All Mill Creek MetroParks outdoor locations will remain open including Mill Creek Park, Fellows Riverside Gardens, MetroParks Bikeway, Mill Creek Golf Course, James L. Wick Recreation Area, Scholl Recreation Area, Yellow Creek Park and all nature preserves.

SRMC Foundation Gala
SALEM – Salem Regional Medical Center (SRMC) has postponed the SRMC Foundation Gala to a later date in 2020. The SRMC Foundation is in the process of rescheduling this event to a later date, which will be determined as the COVID-19 situation evolves in Ohio.
