State reports another COVID death in county
LISBON – While new cases continue to rise mostly due to increased testing at the FCI-Elkton prison, the state reported Columbiana County had another resident die from complications of COVID-19.
The Ohio Department of Health lists Columbiana County with 59 deaths, but no additional information was released on Tuesday regarding the death. Additionally, there are now reportedly 983 cases accumulative in the county, but total hospitalizations have not risen and remain at 144.
Over the weekend, the number of county cases increased by 21 cases from 957 to 978. County health department public information officer Laura Fauss reported of those additional 21 cases, 17 can be directly attributed to additional testing at the prison and four to other residents. There were no increases in cases in long-term care facilities. As of Monday, there have been 574 inmates at FCI-Elkton test positive for COVID-19, an increase of 46 in a week.
Additional upcoming testing planned in the county, including pop-up testing at the Community Action Agency next week, could lead to the number of cases rising over the 1,000 mark.
