Wellsville man pleads guilty to aggravated vehicular assault, OVI
LISBON –A Wellsville-area man pleaded guilty as charged to two counts of aggravated vehicular assault, two counts of vehicular assault and OVI during a hearing Friday in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court.
Glenn A. McKenzie, 62, of state Route 39, is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 14. He was accused of being intoxicated at the time of a Dec. 7, 2018, traffic accident that resulted in serious physical harm1 to Wilma and Donald Smith.
According to state highway patrol, McKenzie was traveling north on SR 39 when he drove off the right side of the road, over-corrected back onto the road and overturned, striking the Smiths’ southbound vehicle. The Smith vehicle also was then struck from behind by another vehicle.
Following the accident, McKenzie and the Smiths were all flown by Stat MedEvac to UPMC in Pittsburgh where they were treated.
McKenzie was a Yellow Creek Township trustee as the time but resigned in September 2019, stating he was leaving the board for health reasons. His resignation took effect just prior to his indictment.
In other court news, Angela J. Veglia, 35, Dyke Road, Negley, was served with a secret indictment issued by the grand jury. Veglia was indicted on breaking and entering charges after breaking into the home of F. Wade Shanks, Carmel Achor Road, Rogers, on April 16.
