LISBON — The death of a 63-year-old Columbiana County man with underlying health conditions is the latest local coronavirus-related death. He is the 60th county resident to die from complications of the disease and the 33rd person from a long-term care facility.

According to Laura Fauss, the public information officer with the county health department, the county has had 33 men and 27 women ages 43 to 96 who have died from coronavirus.

Although there was a bigger jump over the weekend in cases, there was only one additional positive on Tuesday, bringing the county’s total to 1,218.

On Friday, the health department had reported 1,100 cases in Columbiana County with 680 of those cases FCI-Elkton inmates. On Monday, the cases had increased by 117 overall with 783 of those cases reported to be inmates from FCI-Elkton and 84 residents of long-term care facilities.

The federal Bureau of Prisons reports 579 of their inmate cases have recovered and 240 are currently positive. Additionally, the prison reports 46 staff have recovered from coronavirus with seven still positive. Nine inmates died.

The Ohio Department of Health reports Columbiana County now has had 147 people hospitalized, an increase of two people since last week. The number is accumulative.

Although pop-up testing through the state was conducted on Monday, results are not yet known.

Ohio numbers continue to increase as well. The state lists 51,789 total cases with 48,222 of those confirmed cases. Additionally, there have been 2,863 coronavirus-related deaths, 7,839 hospitalizations and 1,994 ICU admissions. There are currently 722 Ohioans hospitalized due to COVID-19, according to the Ohio Hospital Association.

While testing in Ohio continues to increase, the percentage of those testing positive remains at 5 percent, which is where it has been daily for most of June.
