Leetonia BOE extends classified union contract

LEETONIA – The Leetonia school board this week approved a one-year extension with the classified staff union for the upcoming school year.

The board approved a one-year roll-over agreement with the union for the 2020-2021 school year that includes a 2 percent increase in base wages. The contract is the same as the one the board approved for the teachers union earlier this month.

In other business, the board approved a pay increase of 25 cents per hour for all Title Tutors, Title Aides and IDEA Aides; and approved Brandon Frenger, Lorie Bush and Catherine McCoy as Title Tutors and Gail Zoppelt, Rick Davis and Lori Yuhaniak as Title Aides for the 2020-2021 school year.

The board also granted supplemental coaching contracts for the 2020-2021 school year to Paul Gray and Tim Blake for assistant varsity football and Bob Vaia for junior high head football.

Also at the meeting the approved the temporary suspension of the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s athletic eligibility requirement which requires student athletes to receive passing grades in a minimum of five one-credit courses or the equivalent that counts toward graduation in the immediately preceding grading period due to the COVID pandemic that forced school districts to use online learning on short notice at the end of the 2019-2020 school year.

The board also accepted donations of $458 from Giant Eagle for Apples for the Students, $100 from Brittney Woods for the Woods Family Scholarship Fund and face shields from Dinesol Plastics Inc.
