Salem chase ends in Austintown with drugs

SALEM- An attempted traffic stop in Salem ended in a three-vehicle crash in Austintown and recovery of a large amount of drugs and paraphernalia Thursday night.

According to Salem Sergeant Danny Green, officers attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle at around 6:30 p.m., but the driver did not stop and the occupants were seen throwing items out of the windows.

Green said the chase ended when the driver crashed into two vehicles on state Route 46 in Austintown. A male individual fled the vehicle and was found in a wooded area by Austintown police and transported to the Columbiana County Jail. A female individual from the vehicle was transported from the scene to St. Elizabeth’s Health Center.

A search of the vehicle revealed drugs, drug paraphernalia and counterfeit money. The drug task force responded to assist due to the amount of items in the vehicle.

No further information was available at press time and no one has been charged yet, Green said.
