Salem trustees hear report on road projects

SALEM TWP. — Trustees heard from township road foreman Jason Entrikin on work projects and shopping for truck parts, including the cost of renting an asphalt grinder.

Entrikin had talked during a previous meeting about wanting to do repairs on the road under the railroad overpass on Old Route 344.

He reported Tuesday night that the cost for a grinder was $465 a day or $1,470 for 40 hours from Leppo Rents in Youngstown. He planned to get more details on the number of hours a day rental represents. Trustees suggested he ask for a demonstration, too.

The surface needs to be ground down for repairs to keep the distance the same between the road and the overpass.

He also talked about wanting to make repairs to the ditch on Grafton Road near old Route 344, which has been washed out, with Trustee John Wilms offering some suggestions.

In other business, a representative of Buckeye Water District visited with trustees and gave them an update on some of the district projects in the southern end of Columbiana County. Wilms asked when they were going to start bringing water to the township.

The trustees agreed to set Halloween Trick or Treat at the same time as Leetonia, from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31.

The next trustee meeting will be 7 p.m. Sept. 29.
