Another virus death recorded in Columbiana County
LISBON– The Columbiana County has recorded one new COVID-19 related death since Friday.
Laura Fauss of the Columbiana County Health District reported an increase of 11 positive cases, all general community members. There was also a confirmed death Saturday of a 65-year-old male who was not a resident of a long-term care facility.
The county total of positive cases is 2,147 positive residents– 959 inmates from the federal prison, 208 residents of long-term care facilities and 980 general community members. The county has seen 89 total COVID-19 related deaths–nine inmates of the federal prison, 56 residents of long-term care facilities and 24 general community members.
Fauss said the department’s disease trackers have been working tirelessly the past seven months as the community cases continue to rise. Most recently there was an outbreak from a community event where a symptomatic person attended, causing illness in at least five other attendees and requiring the quarantine of over 40 others.
“Staying home when you are sick, keeping 6 feet from others who are not in your household and wearing masks could have prevented this outbreak and additional illnesses,” Fauss explained. “As we move forward, with community spread on the rise in this county, we must learn from our past mistakes. Please follow the public health recommendations and guidance that have been developed to stop the spread of this disease, for the health of all of our residents.”
