St. Paul fish fry fundraiser set

SALEM — St. Paul School will host a carry-out only, pre-order fish fry fundraiser on Friday, with teachers, administrators and staff preparing three meal options to generate funds for students.

People may order in advance by calling the school at 330-337-3451 or online at http://tinyurl.com/SPSFishFry. To reserve meals, payment may be made in advance by check or cash by dropping or mailing it to the school (925 E. State Street, Salem, OH 44460) or via the Venmo app (@SaintPaulSchoolSALEM); please note payment is for FISH.

Pickup will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Friday behind the school in the back parking lot.

School personnel tested out recipes and equipment, refined processes and packaging, and obtained some high quality fish from Coezy Meat Market in Lisbon for the meal.

For $12, choose between a huge 8 ounce crispy beer battered fried pollock filet or an 8 ounce broiled pollock filet seasoned with lemon pepper. Fish meals include all three sides of cheesy potato casserole, green beans, and creamy coleslaw. They also include a homemade corn muffin with butter, tartar sauce, and a malt vinegar packet. The broiled fish, green beans, and coleslaw are GF and keto friendly.

There is also a $6 macaroni and cheese meal that comes with an applesauce cup, green beans, and coleslaw.

With COVID-19 restrictions, school personnel have been practicing and planning hard to prepare and get food out as quickly and safely as possible. At the time of order, they are asking people to select approximate pick up times so that meals can be ready to go.

The teachers and Father Bob have taste-tested everything and are hoping the public will enjoy a delicious Lenten fish fry meal while supporting a great cause.

“Everyone loved the fish! We are featuring teachers’ own recipes for homemade corn muffins, beans, tartar sauce, cheesy potatoes, etc. If this goes well, we will offer another fish fry next month. This is a tough year with all of our usual big fundraising efforts off the table due to COVID-19, and it’s wonderful to know our teachers and families are coming together to work hard on innovative new fundraisers like this to ensure that our school and students have everything they need to finish this year strong,” Principal David Pancurak said.

St. Paul School is an Ohio STEM-designated school for students in grades pre-K-6. Aside from going virtual/remote upon the recommendation of local agencies after the holidays, St. Paul School has been open for face-to-face instruction all year and at the time of this release still had zero student or staff COVID cases.
