United combines girls, boys track coaching positions
HANOVERTON — The United school board Wednesday night combined the varsity track head coaching positions for this year.
The board approved a memorandum of understanding with the teachers union to combine the varsity boys and girls track head coaching positions and add a varsity assistant for the 2020-2021 school year. The board then granted the supplemental contracts to Danielle Burch for head coach and Riley Fillman as an assistant.
The board also approved a memorandum of understanding with the teachers union to extend the incentive for any member to receive an additional $3,000 for retiring by the end of the 2021-2022 school year.
Under other personnel matters, the board accepted the retirement of Chris Grace as high school physical education/health teacher effective June 4; hired Jordan Wrask as Tobin teacher; and granted a continuing contract to elementary teacher Ashley Bussard.
In other business, the board approved the school calendar for 2021-2022 with the first day for students Aug. 30, last day June 3 and graduation May 29; granted permission for the high school band to travel by chartered bus to Kennywood Park in West Mifflin, Pa., May 14 where the students will perform; and for the high school choir to travel by school bus to Cleveland May 8 where the students will sing the National Anthem to open the Cleveland Indians game; and accepted donations of $1,292.03 from various donors to the Ruriteens for Pennies for Patients, $646.25 from various donors to the Key Club for the Rock Your Socks fundraiser in support of Down Syndrome efforts, $646.25 from Janice Carson to the Community Outreach Program, $500 from Mr. and Mrs. Cope to the football program, $400 from the Columbiana County Basketball Coaches Association to the athletics program, $251 from Matt and Stacey Zines to the softball program, $36 anonymously to the softball program, $200 from Jeri Francis to the Backpack Program and $100 from Thomas and Janice Allmon to the Backpack Program.
The board also approved an updated memorandum of understanding with the Columbiana County Emergency Management Agency to help in the event of an emergency in the community.
Also at the meeting, board member RuthAnn Rinto reminded community members that nominations are being accepted for the United Wall of Fame 2021 class through May 14. Forms are available on the high school’s website under community organizations. The induction celebrations are scheduled for Sept. 10 and 11.
