EP police growing beards for fundraiser

EAST PALESTINE — Members at the East Palestine Police Department are putting down their razors for a good cause.

Officers and department employees are participating in a No Shave November fundraiser Oct. 31 until Dec. 4.

Police Chief James Brown permits officers and other department staff permission to stop shaving after the Halloween Parade until the Christmas parade.

“We always try to judge who has the best beard, who has the worst beard,” Brown said. “It’s a way to give back to the community.”

All proceeds from the No Shave November fundraiser will benefit “Shop with a Cop.” The department purchased gifts for 22 children last year.

“We just want them to have a good Christmas. I think every kid deserves that,” Brown commented.

Officers will carry flyers and collect information from anyone wanting to participate in the fundraiser. Brown explained the flyers will resemble what schools and cookie sales use. Residents will fill out their donation amount, name and a phone number.

Residents can also make donations on station at 75 E. Main St.

Brown said he feels the community gave such a great response last year, he looks forward to seeing what can be accomplished this year.

“I think everybody understands the importance of it and just reaching out and trying to help people who have fallen on hard times and just make sure that these kids have a decent Christmas,” Brown said.

Officers anticipate giving back to community children and building positive connections.

“A lot of us are born and raised here and our family and friends are here,” Brown said. “What we do or how we do our job impacts everyone.”
