New officer in Perry

Patrolman Jon Straney smiles as his girlfriend, Amber Venorsky, pins on his new badge shortly after Perry Township Police Chief Mike Emigh administered his oath as the department’s newest full-time officer Monday night. Perry Township Trustees approved the hiring during their meeting effective Oct. 18. Straney had been working as a part-time officer with the department since June. A Crestview High School graduate, Straney graduated from the Youngstown State University Police Academy. He previously served as a full-time firefighter for the city of Salem and currently holds a seat on the Crestview school board. Trustees also hired Dylan Bell of Boardman as a part-time police officer. Bell is a part-time officer with Warren Township Police. (Salem News photo by Mary Ann Greier)
