Call for Campbell Grocery photos, memorabilia for Sunday salute

WEST POINT – Dolly Campbell of Campbell’s Grocery on state Route 45 is retiring after some 40 years of serving West Point and the tight-knit community wants to celebrate her.

They plan to do it on Sunday and they are asking for help making the event truly special.

West Point resident Robin Schafer is helping organize the tribute. She asks anyone with photos or memorabilia related to Campbell and her late husband Don and their store to reach out to her before the event this weekend.

“I would love to have half the energy of that woman,” Schafer said of Campbell, who was active in the community her entire life, teaching school and taking calls for the West Point Fire Department.

Schafer said it is important to her to honor Campbell after how much she has contributed to the community over the decades. She said she wants Campbell to know how valued she is by everyone.

Sunday’s event is scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. People are asked to gather at Campbell’s grocery store at 12532 state Route 45 where Schafer said people are invited to participate however they are comfortable, whether it is from their cars or in person. The fire department also has been invited to attend and to bring a truck.

Anyone with contributions can reach out to Robin Schafer at J&J Tire Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at 330-424-5511. She can be reached at her cell after 5 p.m. at 330-429-2811. She will also be at J&J Saturday between 8 a.m. and noon, she said.
