Accused Homeworth killer’s trial date remains the same

LISBON – Dates remain set in May for the aggravated murder trial of Gary Joiner following a brief interim status conference hearing on Thursday morning in Common Pleas Court.

Attorneys for both the prosecutor’s office and the defense reported nothing had been resolved and assured Judge Scott Washam that information about the evidence in the case is being exchanged when requested.

Joiner, 43, who is being held on a $1 million cash surety bond, is scheduled for a jury trial in two months for allegedly shooting and killing Ryan Virden in a Homeworth Road, Homeworth, home on March 29, 2021.

He is charged with two counts of aggravated murder, an unclassified felony; murder, an unclassified felony; two counts of aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony; having weapons while under a disability and tampering with evidence, each a third-degree felony. Additionally, the indictment lists five firearms specifications with the charges.

A final status conference before the trial remains scheduled for May 5 with the jury trial scheduled on May 23.
