Lisbon to kick off Christmas season on Saturday

LISBON — Christmas is coming to Lisbon on Saturday as the village is set to ring in the holiday season with its annual Christmas parade and light-up night.

This year’s parade will follow the theme of “A Super Hero Christmas” with a number of entries expected and Santa Claus — everyone’s favorite superhero — closing the procession as star of the show.

Judy Noel, executive director of the Lisbon Area Chamber of Commerce and the sponsor of the annual parade, said the parade starts at 5 p.m. at McKinley Elementary School. Entries will line up beginning at 4 p.m. and leave the school and head downtown at 4:45 p.m.

Following the parade, light-up night will be held at the square and downtown. Mayor Pete Wilson thanked D’Apolito Tree Farm, located at 13420 Cusick Road, Lisbon, for the donation of the “perfect tree” which will be set up at the gazebo and decorated this week. The tree will officially be lit on Saturday as part of the Christmas festivities.

Prior to the parade, Reflections of Time Photography will continue its yearly tradition of offering portraits with Santa at the gazebo from 2 to 4 p.m.

Also renewing a tradition at the gazebo, the Keller family will perform a holiday play at 4 p.m.

The Source Gallery will also hold a event that day with an open house from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday. The event will be held at 40 N. Park Ave. and allow patrons to browse art from over 50 local artisans. The gallery’s signature charcuterie and refreshments will be offered as will Ed Madej’s live cello music.

For those who want to get into the Christmas spirit by giving back on Saturday, the Lisbon Police Department will hold a Stuff-A-Cruiser event at the Dollar General Store at 7000 Rose Dr. from 2 to 4 p.m. Village officers as well as Santa and Mrs. Claus will be collecting toy donations to benefit the Under Wraps program with Serenity’s Way.

Area residents can also give the gift of warmth through the Lisbon Chamber this Christmas by participating in a blanket drive. Little Village Big Hearts — a collaboration of many organizations to bring assistance to families in need — along with the chamber are collecting blankets and pillows. New, packaged pillows and blankets can be dropped off at the chambers office at 120 N. Market St. during office hours. For information on the program call 330-424-1803 or email lisbonareachamberofcommerce@gmail.com.

Starting at $2.99/week.
