CCCTC OK’s Narcan use in emergencies
LISBON — The Columbiana County Career and Technical Center (CCCTC) has authorized the school nurse to administer Narcan in the event of an emergency.
The CCCTC Board of Education included the authorization via an addition to the existing policy manual under the Use of Medications section.
The board approved the policy addition unanimously during the June regular meeting.
District Superintendent Jeremy Corbisello said the board made the change because the CCCTC felt it was something that needed to be addressed.
The policy states that the school nurse can administer Narcan, also known as Naloxone, to a student or other individual on school grounds in the event of an opioid-related drug overdose.
The policy also states that emergency services would be contacted as soon as possible, and that a designated staff member would also promptly notify the student’s parent or guardian.
In other policy matters the career center is also implementing a new cell phone policy.
The CCCTC announced on its Facebook page recently that the policy aligns with Ohio House Bill 250 and Senate Bill 158.
As a result, students will not be allowed to use cell phones, headphones/earbuds, tablets, Smartwatches, and all other electronic communication and entertainment devices throughout the school day.
The new policy will take effect for the 2025-26 school year and more information will be shared by the CCCTC during the Junior Orientation on Aug. 14.
Students with documented medical needs will be accommodated, according to the school.
In other matters during the CCCTC Board of Education meeting, the board also approved:
A resolution regarding Special Education policies.
The Adult PM and CCM handbook for the 2025-26 school year, and the high school staff and student handbooks for the 2025-26 school year.
Zacary Mayfield as summer worker for the Buildings and Grounds department at a rate of $12 per hour, effective June 2. Jacalyn Hanshaw as part-ty and Security Patrol on an as-needed basis at a rate of $18.75 per hour for the 2025-26 school year.
An administrative contract for Chris Kaiser as principal and Special Education Director effective July 2 through June 30, 2028.
The next board meeting was set for 7 p.m. July 15
