Jury trial remains set for man accused of lying during shooting death investigation

LISBON — The jury trial remains set for 9 a.m. Sept. 30 for Travis Kidder, the man accused of lying to investigators related to the 2021 shooting death of 20-year-old Brycen Douglas in East Liverpool.

Kidder, 25, Bradshaw Avenue, East Liverpool, appeared Monday morning  before Columbiana County Common Pleas Court Judge Megan Bickerton accompanied by his attorney, James Wise, for an interim status hearing

He is charged with obstructing official business, a third-degree felony. The indictment alleged that he did on July 22, 2021 with purpose to hinder the discovery, apprehension, prosecution, conviction, or punishment of another for a crime, or to assist another to benefit from the commission of a crime, communicate false information to any person, noting that the crime committed was aggravated murder, murder or a felony of the first or second degree.

Columbiana County Prosecutor Vito Abruzzino previously alleged that Travis Kidder “presented facts and circumstances that appear to be fabricated. He lied to investigators.” A final status hearing remains set for 9:20 a.m. Sept. 22. Kidder remains out of jail on a $50,000 recognizance bond.

The hearing was very brief, with Wise indicating there was no resolution in the case. Bickerton noted there had been no motions filed in the case yet and mentioned the upcoming dates in September, saying, “I just want to make sure we’re on all the same page here.”

Elvin EJ Tisdale, 35, Newell, W.Va., the man charged with aggravated murder, murder and firearm specifications for allegedly shooting Douglas to death, is scheduled to face a jury trial next week. He’s also facing an additional charge of having weapons while under disability, due to being prohibited from having or using a gun due to a previous felony conviction.

Allen Tisdale, 25, Lisbon, was also indicted for aggravated murder, murder and firearm specifications for the death of Douglas, but pleaded guilty in May to a lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter and complicity for a weapons charge.

As part of the plea agreement, he is required to “provide complete and truthful information and testimony on behalf of the state in the continuing investigation of the death of Brycen Douglas and prosecution of any and all persons involved including but not limited to Elvin EJ Tisdale.”

Sentencing for Allen Tisdale remains set for 9:20 a.m. July 21. He is scheduled to testify next week in the aggravated murder trial of Elvin EJ Tisdale.

Starting at $2.99/week.
